Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures around the world. It aims to improve the symmetry, size, and shape of the breasts, allowing women to gain confidence and self-esteem. A breast augmentation procedure can be life-changing when performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon. Unfortunately, some patients may occasionally have poorly executed breast surgeries for many reasons, which can cause them to be unhappy, uncomfortable, and even emotionally distressed. Board-certified Dallas plastic surgeon Dr. Solomon Azouz has extensive training and experience with breast augmentations, breast lifts, internal bra surgery, breast reduction, and correcting botched breast surgeries with a breast revision.

What are the symptoms of a botched boob job?

Botched breast augmentations can result from a variety of factors, such as implant size, kind, site, and surgical technique. Complications from poorly executed breast augmentations can also result from:

  • Implant problems: These include issues like a ruptured implant, deflation, implant rippling, capsular contracture (where scar tissue hardens and tightens around the implant), or malposition (where the implant is in the wrong position)
  • Breast Asymmetry: The breasts are not the same size, shape, or position on both sides
  • Scarring: Visible or undesired scarring
  • Changes with pregnancy or weight loss: sagging or lost volume of the breasts
  • Capsular contracture is when the scar tissue around the implant hardens and contracts, making the breast feel painful and stiff.

How to fix a botched boob job

To correct a botched breast surgery, it’s important to begin with a thorough consultation including your medical history and details of the procedure. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Azouz will discuss your expectations and aesthetic goals and recommend specific corrective procedures.

Revision breast surgery can include:

  • Removal of implants
  • Removal of the scar tissue surrounding the implant
  • Removing and replacing the implants
  • Transplanting fat to the region to enhance and contour the breast
  • A breast lift

Will I have new scars in revision breast surgery?

In many circumstances, Dr. Azouz can use existing scars from the original surgery to perform a revision. This reduces the overall quantity of scar tissue while maintaining a more discrete appearance. However, depending on the severity of the revision, more incisions may be required. Many original breast augmentation incisions are intentionally placed in areas that are often hidden. For example, they could be placed in the crease beneath the breast fold or around the nipple. During revision surgery, Dr. Azouz can use the same incisions to reach the implant capsule or breast tissue. Scar tissue softens and becomes more pliable over time. With less strain on the scar and possibly improved aesthetics in the long term, this enables Dr. Azouz to carefully manage it during revision. Dr. Azouz also uses minimally invasive techniques to camouflage the incision for improved recovery and minimal scarring.
